Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health

Wabano has medical services and programs for those living with HIV/AIDS. The Wabano HIV/AIDS program is a culturally appropriate program for urban Aboriginal community members of all ages, and provides education sessions on HIV/AIDS and healthy sexuality. The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health offers a Healthy Sexuality Education Program following a holistic approach to improve health and general well-being through a series of culturally relevant activities. The programs are designed to educate our community with evidence-based healthy sexuality education that is fun, engaging, and specific for the Indigenous community. Topics covered include Two Spirit teachings, traditional teachings on healthy sexuality, sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections information, healthy relationships, contraception, information regarding safe injection drug use, legal and reproductive rights, consent and boundaries, age-specific activities, etc. We also provide a safe and positive space for the LGBTQ-Two Spirit community, attend outings in the community like Pride Parade, and offer specialized workshops in the community. All activities are carefully crafted to engage the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of individuals. Wabano uses the wisdom and experience of our Indigenous Elders to lead activities to bring necessary feelings of comfort and security to our client base.
